Milling machines
Milling machines use rotary motion cutters mounted on a spindle to remove material from the workpiece. The wide variety of work operations puts milling machines among the most popular types of machinery in the metalwork and manufacturing procesess. The different types of milling machines are commonly classified by the axial movement of their cutters along the X and Y axes, resulting in the three broad types - the horizontal milling machine, the vertical one and the universal milling machine where the spindle can move along both axes. The Z axis denotes the depth of penetration. Milling machines can also be manual of CNC operated. When choosing the type of machine that would best serve the particular needs, it's important also to consider the spindle tilt action, the work table size, the spindle speed capabilities and the spindle taper size.
